RENOVATION BERLAYMONT

The Berlaymont, built in the sixties to house the offices of the then "common market" had to be cleaned up due to the presence of asbestos. During the remediation the restoration project was developed. The Belgian State and the European Commission have set up two teams to draw up the project. Sandro Giulianelli coordinated the technical team of the European Commission, establishing the framework of the needs of the commission and the guidelines of the project.
The building has been completely emptied and on the facade has been placed a system of glass blades for solar protection, controlled by a computer system, which open and close according to weather conditions. This system allows a considerable energy saving.
The building is the flag building of the European Commission.
